Discovering Drawing Workshop- 11th May

A one day observational drawing workshop exploring the potential and power of drawing. Slow down and observe the hidden lives of things. Begin to see things in a new light. Learn to translate your observations and experiences into drawings. Discuss and share ideas and questions about drawing, with advice and encouragement from tutor Angie Brew.

The teaching method is founded on new findings from cognitive science about how we learn to draw, breaking the skill into easy steps and focusing on enjoyment of the learning process as the key to success. Brew is currently studying ‘the impact of drawing practice on the way we see things’ for her PhD.

Wednesday 11th May 11am – 4pm

At Sprout Gallery, 74 Moyser Rd, SW16 *

Crisis in Gaza Group Talk: 27th April 7pm

The Crisis in Gaza group (started by Furzedown Residents) will host this event. The group came together in response to shock at the loss of life and infrastructure in Gaza during operation cast lead 2008/9.

This event includes a speaker, Nandita Dowson, from the twinning of Camden in London and Abu Dis in Palestine (a Palestinian town which featured in the drama ‘The Promise’ on Channel Four in February). In addition they will invite people to view a ‘Book of Destruction’, a record of a photographic exhibition which recorded the aftermath of operation cast lead.

Nandita will show two short videos from cultural exchanges in Camden and Abu Dis, Stories from our Mothers film and a Youth for Human Rights film, both about twinning. There will be some  illustrations of Twinning and the activity of this group and then a Q & A/discussion

Above is a flier for a current Palestinian art exhibition which the group has recommended, It's on till 21st April at the Mosaic Rooms gallery near Earls Court.
